Microsoft 365 apps on your phone
What is free, what needs a subscription, and where to get them.
Good news: on a phone or tablet, the apps you need for email are free. The licence question really only affects Windows and Mac.
- Open the Play Store and search for Microsoft Outlook. Install it. It is free and works with every plan, including Business Basic.
- Sign in with your Microsoft 365 email address. See the Microsoft 365 email guides on this site.
- Word, Excel and PowerPoint are also free to install. On a small screen you can view and edit documents at no cost.
- On a larger tablet, or to unlock the full editing features, those three apps ask for a Microsoft 365 subscription. Any plan that includes the desktop apps covers this.
- Install Microsoft OneDrive and Microsoft Teams as well if your workplace uses them. See the OneDrive & Teams guides on this site.
If you only ever read email on your phone and in a browser, Business Basic on its own is genuinely enough and you do not need to buy anything else.
Install Microsoft Authenticator too. See the Multi-factor authentication guides on this site.
