Gmail app
The Gmail app can handle non-Gmail POP accounts and is on nearly every Android device.
Before you start, have your full email address and mailbox password handy. Your username is always your full email address, not just the part before the @. Both the incoming and outgoing server are mail. followed by your own domain name.
| Incoming mail (POP3) | |
|---|---|
| Server / host name | mail.yourdomain.com.au |
| Port | 995 |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing mail (SMTP) | |
| Server / host name | mail.yourdomain.com.au |
| Port | 465 |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS |
| Authentication required | Yes — same username and password |
| Both servers | |
| Username | your full email address |
| Password | your mailbox password |
Incoming and outgoing use the same host name. If your internet provider blocks port 465 for sending, try port 587 with STARTTLS instead.
- Open the Gmail app.
- Tap your profile picture at the top right, then Add another account.
- Tap Other at the bottom of the list.
- Enter your full email address and tap Manual setup (bottom left).
- Tap Personal (POP3).
- Enter your password and tap Next.
- On the incoming server screen, confirm the Username is your full email address, then enter the Server, Port and Security type from the table above.
- Set Delete email from server to Never if you also read this mailbox on a computer. Tap Next.
- On the outgoing server screen, make sure Require sign-in is ticked, then enter the same server name plus the SMTP port and security type from the table. Tap Next.
- Choose your sync frequency and tap Next, then give the account a name and tap Next.
Reading mail on more than one device? POP downloads messages onto the device. Make sure "leave a copy of messages on the server" is switched on in every mail app, otherwise whichever device checks first will take the mail away from the others.
