Apple Mail (iPhone / iPad)

The Mail app built into iOS and iPadOS.

Before you start, have your full email address and mailbox password handy. Your username is always your full email address, not just the part before the @. Both the incoming and outgoing server are mail. followed by your own domain name.
Type your domain name and the settings below will fill in for you.
Incoming mail (POP3)
Server / host namemail.yourdomain.com.au
Port995
EncryptionSSL/TLS
Outgoing mail (SMTP)
Server / host namemail.yourdomain.com.au
Port465
EncryptionSSL/TLS
Authentication requiredYes — same username and password
Both servers
Usernameyour full email address
Passwordyour mailbox password

Incoming and outgoing use the same host name. If your internet provider blocks port 465 for sending, try port 587 with STARTTLS instead.

  1. Open Settings on your device.
  2. Scroll down and tap Apps → Mail, then tap Mail Accounts. (On older iOS versions: Settings → Mail → Accounts.)
  3. Tap Add Account, then tap Other at the bottom of the list.
  4. Tap Add Mail Account.
  5. Enter your Name, full Email address, Password and a Description (for example "Work Mail"), then tap Next.
  6. At the top of the next screen tap the POP tab.
  7. Under Incoming Mail Server, enter the Host Name from the table above. Set User Name to your full email address and enter your password.
  8. Under Outgoing Mail Server, enter the same Host Name. You must also enter the User Name and Password here, even though iOS labels them optional. Leaving them blank is the most common reason sending fails.
  9. Tap Save. If iOS warns that it cannot connect with SSL, tap No when asked to try without SSL, and check the host name for typos.
  10. Once saved, go back into the account, tap Advanced, and confirm Use SSL is on and the Server Port matches the table.
  11. On the same Advanced screen, set Delete from server to Never if you also read this mailbox on a computer.
Reading mail on more than one device? POP downloads messages onto the device. Make sure "leave a copy of messages on the server" is switched on in every mail app, otherwise whichever device checks first will take the mail away from the others.
If you cannot find the POP tab, you have tapped a named provider instead of "Other". Go back and start again from Add Account → Other.
